Winter hotspots in the United States don’t come much more renowned than Park City, celebrated for its vast terrain, fine powder and world-class hospitality.

While often thought of as a ski destination, there’s more to Park City and Deer Valley than life on the slopes, particularly in the warmer months. Read on for our Park City travel guide and discover outdoor adventure, upscale dining and year-round mountain culture.

Beyond skiing: what are Park City and Deer Valley known for?

Sitting on the eastern side of the Wasatch Mountains, Park City stretches across an alpine empire of 7,300 skiable acres – the largest resort complex in the United States and a planned venue for the 2034 Olympic Winter Games.

While the best time to visit Park City, Utah is widely considered to be winter, the city offers extensive activities and opportunities for exploration, whatever the season.

The city itself boasts a storied history, a thriving arts scene and electric nightlife. Explore the Park City Museum and Kimball Art Center, then head to historic Main Street to indulge in independent boutique shopping and sample a local craft beer or two. Park City has also become synonymous with indie film culture, and is most notably home to the renowned Sundance Film Festival, held in late winter (often at the end of January).

A stone’s throw from Park City lies the serenity of Deer Valley. The ideal getaway destination for couples and luxury seekers, Deer Valley is a refined haven of cosy lodges, five-star hotels and elegant fine-dining restaurants.

A stay at the refined Montage Deer Valley is a real treat, with its upscale rooms and world-class 35,000 square-foot spa. To excite your inner gourmand, try the fresh sashimi plates at Yama and visit the Michelin-worthy Riverhorse in the heart of the city. Nearby, lively local favourites include the No Name Saloon on Main Street – the perfect spot for a beer and buffalo burger after a long day of activity. If you do plan to visit the Wasatch Mountains during ski season, be sure to visit the world’s only ski-in distillery and saloon, the High West Distillery, sitting at 7,000 feet.

Utah’s premier luxury travel destination: great things to do in Park City in summer

While a true year-round destination, summer remains our favourite season to visit Park City. The snow-hungry crowds of winter have long dispersed, the scenery sparkles in the high-desert sun and there’s so much to do – here are the highlights:

Hike Deer Valley

Summertime in Deer Valley offers endless opportunities to lace up your boots and explore miles of hiking-only trails, with gorgeous vistas at every turn. Ride the Silver Lake Express chairlift (at the base) or Sterling Express chairlift (mid-mountain) to access new areas, while a complimentary chairlift ride down offers more flexibility in your routes.

Enjoy scenic drives

There’s no better way to immerse yourself in this heavenly area than with a Park City scenic drive. Deer Valley offers smooth, twisty roads flanked by miles of unspoiled forest and mountain views – the ideal setting and conditions for driving. Whether it’s taking in the blue waters of Rockport Reservoir or cruising through the majestic Big Cottonwood Canyon, every corner brings a stunning new vista.

Mountain biking

To say Park City is good for mountain bikers is something of an understatement. More than 400 miles of public single-track trails line the surrounding mountains, all easily accessed. Park City has a very welcoming biking community, to the extent that it was named America’s first Gold-Level Ride Center by the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) in 2024. For something a little different, try the scenic 28-mile Historic Union Pacific Rail Trail, following an old railroad from Park City to Echo – an easy ride from south to north.

Boating and jetskiing

The broad blue Jordanelle Reservoir is your destination for kayaking, paddleboarding, pontoon cruising and high-speed jet-ski runs with the unique backdrop of the Wasatch Mountains. Warm days, clean water and easy marina access with many rental options make for a perfect day on the water – a refreshing counterpoint to Park City’s mountain trails.

Summer concert series

As the weather warms, Deer Valley embraces the pleasure of open-air music with an extensive summer concert series catering to every taste. The melodic action tends to play out at the 4,500-capacity Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater, with genres from opera and jazz to heavy rock represented.
