The hike to the summit is challenging – not one for beginners – but those who make the climb are rewarded with uninterrupted vistas across the surrounding landscape.
Sitting at the top of the Blue Ridge Plateau, Floyd is an arts-driven mountain town known for its natural beauty, local wines and vibrant live music scene. While the town offers festivals year round, casual live music can be found throughout the week. This peaks at the weekly Friday Night Jamboree, when the streets of the town overflow with musicians – some playing in alleys, driveways and parking lots during the warmer months.
Another key stop along the Blue Ridge Parkway, Meadows of Dan offers a gentler pace of discovery. This small mountain community is known for its photogenic beauty and rural charm – a peaceful setting to pause, dine and even spend the night. Visit the peach and apple orchards, artisan shops and the historic Mabry Mill, showing off a working gristmill and blacksmith shop that bring the region’s heritage to life.
